What are import duties & taxes?

Import duties are taxes charged by customs when goods enter a country, calculated as a percentage of the shipment's value based on its HTS classification. FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is the import duty estimated?

The estimate applies the general duty rate from the product’s HTS classification to the customs value you enter. It is a guide for U.S. imports; the exact rate depends on the final classification and country of origin.

Does this include tariffs like Section 301, Section 232, or antidumping duties?

Yes, in part. The calculator adds an estimated additional tariff based on the country of origin you select, reflecting current U.S. measures such as the Section 301 forced-labor action and applicable trade-deal rates. If you mark the shipment as a steel, aluminum, or copper product, it also adds an estimated Section 232 tariff. These are estimates only. Rates are time-sensitive, exemptions apply (including USMCA-qualifying goods and annex exclusions), and antidumping or countervailing duties are product and case specific, so they are not included. Contact our customs team for a shipment-specific figure.

Where does the duty rate data come from?

Rates come from the official U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) Harmonized Tariff Schedule, so they reflect the current published general duty rates.
